On Tuesday November 5th, 2024 was “Clothes Pin” by Markéta Adamcová
This was the 23rd Card curated by Andres Gorzycki
Markéta made these pieces while she was living in Indonesia in 2021 and this was the first time she showed them together. As she presented fabrics dyed with natural pigments, painted with a batik technique normally used for clothes, we wanted to hang them from hanging strings with clothes pins as if taken right after laundry. She wanted to find a fountain to place her works after an iconic photograph of a migrant doing laundry in Frankfurt. The fabrics melted with its environment as the colours of the paintings blended with the colours of the buildings that surrounded them.
We found the Paradieshof after walking together through Sachsenhausen, one of the most old neighbourhoods in the city of Frankfurt which is full of public fountains. This plaza is a really special place in the city, as the streets that surrounds it make a triangle, it has six trees that make a circle and it’s accompanied by a circle in the cobblestones of the square floor. It also has a fountain called “Paradise fountain” which holds a statue of Adam and Eve with the Snake in paradise (and Markéta’s last name includes Adam in it). Also Neal discovered a beautiful detail of the square, as it has some apples in bronze on top of the poles that surrounds the square. This created a magical environment for the paintings to inhabit and they seem to enjoy the space as much as we did.
Even though it was freezing, many friends came to the intervention and we shared Markéta’s home made fizzy drinks, with kefir, fruits and herbs collected by her.
Thanks to everyone that passed by and shared the freezing evening with us.
Until next time.
